Chris Taylor Announces Candidacy for Reelection to Vermont House of Representatives

Milton, Vermont, May 28, 2024 — Chris Taylor proudly declares his bid for reelection to the Vermont House of Representatives, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve the community and an unwavering dedication to continuing work.

In his tenure, Taylor has championed fiscal responsibility, advocating for the efficient utilization of existing state funds over the imposition of new taxes. He firmly asserts that injecting hundreds of millions in new revenue through taxes for initiatives is not sustainable. Instead, Taylor prioritizes bills aimed at ensuring a more financially secure future for all Vermonters.

Education funding reform stands at the forefront of Taylor's platform. He emphasizes the need for transparency, predictability, and sustainability in the system, highlighting concerns about a 13.8% property tax increase without preventative action for future years, which he believes does not serve the best interests of Vermonters. Taylor pledges to overhaul the current structure, advocating for changes that benefit both taxpayers and students. This includes modifying the formula to more closely align local tax dollars with the school budget.

As a steadfast advocate for enhancing education, Taylor's experience in the field and his position on the House Education Committee amplify his voice in pivotal discussions. He underscores the importance of refining the current system to alleviate burdens on educators and prioritize student outcomes, ensuring every child receives the quality education they deserve.

Transparency and communication are foundational to effective governance in Taylor's vision. He commits to keeping constituents informed through legislative updates and forums, valuing their concerns and ideas.

Looking ahead, Taylor vows to uphold fiscal responsibility, implement common-sense solutions, and steadfastly represent the best interests of the community.

Taylor has six years experience in town government as a Selectboard member in Milton. "Milton is one of the fastest growing communities in the state and we have successfully met that challenge by managing the town in a thoughtful and professional way and I will bring that same perspective with me to state level government."

Taylor and his wife Jenn purchased a home in Milton 15 years ago to raise their growing family. “We couldn’t have asked for a better place to raise our children. Milton is a fantastic town that has provided a real feeling of community and support for our family.”, he said. Prior to his work in education, Taylor had over 25 years experience in business management, including creating and operating large budgets giving him the acumen needed to review the state's finances, which he feels are on an unsustainable path “Now, more than ever, the state needs legislators that understand the demands on the public sector but also have the financial experience to plan for the sustainable future of our state. My experience and work history give me those attributes that I can implement on day one.", Taylor said.
